Sweden is about to adopt new pulping classification standards

Sweden: From August 1st, Sweden will adopt new grade standards to divide industrial softwood and hardwood into two quality categories: “Prima” and “Sekunda”. The main change in the new standard is that the quality of individual logs will not be evaluated in the future, but rather the way in which the average quality of the entire batch is assessed. Therefore, from an industry perspective, the new system is more tolerant of less important wood defects, but at the same time imposes stricter restrictions on more relevant defects and gives them greater weight. After the introduction of new industrial softwood and hardwood classification standards, the “Pulp Quality Requirements” issued by SDC Ek on August 1, 2016 will be discarded.
