The seminar on trade in responsible forest products between China and Indonesia was successfully held.

On July 30, 2019, the seminar on trade of responsible forest products between China and Indonesia was successfully held in guangzhou, sponsored by the institute of forestry science and technology information of Chinese academy of forestry and nature conservation association. Participants from China forestry research institute, European forest research institute, nature conservation association, guangdong wood industry association, secretariat of global green supply chain initiative for forest products, shunde sanbrother wood industry co., ltd. and other industries attended the seminar.

Ruslandi, senior manager of productive forests at the Indonesia office of the nature conservancy, gave a detailed overview of Indonesia's forest resources to the participants. Ruslandi pointed out that Indonesia has 120.4 million hectares of forests, accounting for about 64% of the country's total land area, including 47 million hectares of primary forest, 378 million hectares of secondary forest, 34 million hectares of plantation forest and 345 million hectares of no forest area. The functions of forest land in Indonesia can be divided into conservation forest (research, no logging), protection forest (research, leisure, collection of non-wood forest products is allowed, no logging), production forest - limited (logging is allowed), production forest (logging is allowed) and so on. At present, Indonesia has about 69 million hectares of productive forest land, accounting for 57% of the total forest area. Ruslandi said that in recent years, Indonesia has adopted a policy of selective logging for the management and harvesting of natural forests, which are limited in diameter to 40cm (production forest) and 50cm (limited production forest), while the plantation is unconditionally restricted.

However, despite the policy of selective logging of natural forests, Indonesia still faces many challenges in the sustainable development of forests. For example, forest management has not performed its expected function, the government's regulations on log export are not detailed enough, and the implementation of sustainable selective logging costs are high, without any premium. In this regard, optimizing franchise units, improving the profitability of natural forest management and promoting the implementation of best management measures (PHPL/SVLK) have become the best solutions to the challenges of sustainable development, among which SVLK (wood legitimacy certification) is the top priority of sustainable development of Indonesian forests in recent years. Yoga Prayoga, director of plantation management planning department of the ministry of environment and forestry, said at the meeting that SVLK legal certification system aims to conduct SFM and CoC certification on the supply chain of timber trade. A series of activities including timber cutting, transportation, processing, transportation and export must have legitimate permission and certification documents. At present, there are 14 standards and 18 guidelines for SFM and CoC certification in Indonesia. Through the implementation of these 14 standards and 18 guidelines, it is possible to crack down on the smuggling of timber on the one hand, and achieve the traceability of timber on the other hand, so as to realize the sustainable development of forests.

At the end of the meeting, the guests letter by senior engineer lino, Indonesia, Chinese academy of agricultural sciences paper pulp association executive director of its Bratasida, jiangsu Wan Lin modern logistics co., LTD. Overseas division manager zhou libo, china-uk cooperation Zhang Junzuo, director of the international investment and trade projects forestry, forest institute of European policy and private sector experts Thomas Colonna and others are responsible for China - Indonesia's forest products trade challenges, opportunities and solutions put forward his own opinions.

In the warm applause, the seminar ended.
