In 2018, the annual growth rate of plywood production in China reached 15%, the export volume increased against the trend, and the import volume dropped sharply.

In 2018, the average annual growth rate of plywood production reached 15%

In 2018, China produced 155.34 million cubic meters of plywood products, an increase of 3.3% over the previous year. It became the only variety of wood-based panel production, accounting for 65.3% of all wood-based panel production, an increase of 1.2 percentage points year-on-year. In the past 10 years, the annual growth rate of China's plywood products has reached 15.0%, and it is still the fastest growing board in wood-based panels.

In 2018, except for Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Qinghai and Ningxia, the remaining 26 provinces (cities, districts) have plywood products, of which 4 provinces (regions) have output exceeding 10 million cubic meters.

The output of plywood products in East China accounted for 2.0% of the national total output, down 63.7%, and continued to be in the main production area of China's plywood products. The output of South China increased by 4.1% to 18.3%. The regional output accounted for a small drop of 0.3% year-on-year to 8.9%. The output of North China accounted for 0.3% of the national total output, down 4.6%; the Northeast's share of total national output fell by 1.5% to 1.6%. The fifth year of last year was the sixth; the output of the southwestern region accounted for 2.8% of the national total output, from the sixth jump of the previous year to the fifth; the output of the southwest and northwestern regions accounted for 2.5% and 0.1% of the total national output respectively.

In 2018, the consumption of plywood products in China was 187,500 million cubic meters, an increase of 1.6% over the previous year. In the past 10 years, the average annual growth rate of China's plywood products consumption reached 16.3%, and the growth rate continued to decline. It is still the fastest-growing plate in the wood-based panel, and the consumption growth rate is still 1.3 percentage points higher than the output growth. In 2018, the inventory of China's plywood products declined year-on-year, but due to the impact of Sino-US trade frictions, corporate profits declined.

In 2018, although international trade friction had a certain negative impact on the export of plywood products, the export volume of China's plywood products still reached 11.34 million cubic meters (converted), an increase of 3.6% over the same period of the previous year; the export value was 5.546 billion US dollars. , an increase of 8.8% over the previous year, reversing the previous three consecutive declines. Imported plywood products amounted to approximately 163,000 cubic meters (converted), a significant decrease of approximately 12.1% over the same period of the previous year, and decreased for two consecutive years; the import value was 156 million US dollars, an increase of 3.3% over the previous year, rising for three consecutive years.

The average unit price of plywood products exports was US$489.15/m3, up 5.0% over the same period of the previous year, reversing the trend of the previous export average unit price falling for two consecutive years; the average unit price of imports was US$957.06/m3, a substantial increase over the same period of the previous year. 17.6%, growth for two consecutive years. The average unit price of imported plywood products in China is much higher than the average unit price of exports, indicating that most of the plywood imported from China is high-end plywood. China's plywood products are the varieties of wood-based panels that face the most international trade friction, and the road to export will face great challenges.

The exporting countries of China's plywood products have remained basically stable, mainly in the United States, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Israel, South Korea and other countries. However, in terms of export volume, the proportion of traditional export markets led by the United States and South Korea has been shrinking, and the proportion of emerging markets represented by the Philippines, Vietnam, and Israel has increased rapidly. Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries have maintained the status of China's main source of plywood products.
