According to a recent report by the Myanmar Natural Resources Extractive Transparency Initiative (EITI), the relevant departments received tax revenues of 700 billion kyats (1 renminbi = 218.3406 kyats) from the timber industry in the two fiscal years.

 

Dr. Ye Min, Deputy Minister of Resources and Natural Environment Protection, recently stated that in the fiscal year 2015-2018, the state received a total of 700 billion kyats from the timber industry, of which the timber production and sales industry received the most taxes, accounting for 99%. Among the fiscal year 2015-2018, there are 19 timber companies with a tax credit of more than 100 million kyats, and each produced more than 10,000 tons of wood.

 

Among the areas where teak is produced in some parts of Myanmar, Sagaing has the largest number, and Shan State ranks second. 46% of teak, 66% of expensive hardwoods are produced in Sagaing, while 27% of teak and 6% of expensive hardwood are produced in Shan State.

 

It is reported that in the 2015-2016 fiscal year, forestry revenues were 698.834 billion kyats, forestry bureaus received tax 195.354 billion kyats; forestry revenues in 2014-2018 were 714.663 billion kyats, and forestry bureaus received tax 316.882 billion kyats.

 

According to 2015 data, Myanmar's annual afforestation area is 1,486,220,000 acres, accounting for 1.72% of the country's land area. However, the forest destruction area is 37.25 million acres, accounting for 22.29% of the country's land area.
